PROJECTS: SUPER TRI TONE WHISTLE

The windway is an air passageway between the languid and the bowl. The air travels through the windway and then causes an audible vibration of air mole- cules in the resonator.

The bowl assembly

guides air from the manifold through the windway.

The languid is a precisely shaped air stop placed in the bowl. It shaves the rising air into a thin sheet, which then continues on to the windway.

Resonator or bell assembly The sound made by the whistle comes from the oscill a-tions of air as it enters and leaves the resonator through the throat. Air enters and leaves the resonator at a precise frequency determined by the length of the bell.

The throat or mouth is the opening between the bell and the bowl.

The manifold

supplies high-pressure air from the air compressor to the bowl.

WHISTLE WHILE YOU WORK

The Super Tritone Shop Whistle is a simple but loud, double-note signaling device that operates on high-

pressure air supplied by an air compressor. It’s similar in construction to a steam calliope pipe, except it’s made from PVC plastic instead of brass or bronze.
