DIAGRAM OF STEERING CABLE
The pulley-broomstick-and-wire steering
cable is so delightfully
ambitious that I’m not
sure it would work.

Still not convinced?
A less ambitious steering
solution would be to extend
the width of the axletree,
eliminate the footrest,
and steer with your feet.

WINDING OF
STEERING CABLE
Seems like the cable would wind
unto itself and create a bird’s nest
under the hood. At a minimum,
consider adding another peg to keep
the cable from slipping off. Also,
I would think cotton clothesline cord
would be less problematic.
5. BODY COVERING
Though I like the
old-timey look of
linoleum, I must
say an aluminum
body would look
mercilessly fast.
Lag bolt might be adequate for a
toddler, but older detectives will end
up with a flat outside of Barstow!
