Eve Oki Shirley (Baby Shoes Project) loves seeing how things are made. When she couldn’t figure out how shoes are made just by looking, she decided to find out. Eve loves traveling, finding knick-knacks from around the world, painting, filling coloring books, and shopping for tools and materials. Her favorite tool is a very sharp knife (for shoemaking, of course). She doesn’t discriminate when it comes to colors or noodles, adoring all varieties of both. Last year, Eve relocated from Tokyo to Las Vegas with her husband.

Thomas Maiorana (Open Source Shoes DI Y) began making shoes years ago when a roommate’s cat peed in his favorite pair. Unable to replace them, he decided to make his own. He had so much fun that he’s now committed to helping others do the same ( bootyamor.org). In the world away from feet, Thomas works as a creative strategist and lives in San Francisco with his partner, Vida Mia, and their two cats, Zizou and Pema. They have yet to pee in his shoes.

An eclectic crafter, Mary Jane Anderson (Map Coffee Table Project) is currently obsessed with spinning using a drop spindle (no wheel here!). If it weren’t for her super-busy life and lack of superhero-strength wrists, she would spin every day. The only thing she loves more than crafting is her wonderful fiancé, Cal. Mary is a full-time student at Iowa State University and is excited to spend this summer in three different countries. She’s currently working on a sweet Super Mario Brothers rug.

After living on the West Coast for eight years, Meganne Fabrega (Travel Crafty: Amsterdam) discovered her inner Yankee and now lives with her family in Portsmouth, N.H. When she’s not haunting the stacks at the city library, she’s baking desserts for her neighbors and exploring the mystery of thrummed mittens. Her work appears in the San Francisco Chronicle, Publisher’s Weekly, and Portsmouth Magazine, in addition to other publications. She’s currently working on her first novel.

Teresa Mak (Batik Project) started making things as a way to be thrifty, learning from her parents, who immigrated to Canada 30 years ago. Her creativity spans genres, as she knits, makes soap, does ceramics, dyes textiles, cooks, and builds things around the house. She’s so crafty that she’s already created a red sweater pattern for her dream dog, Albert the dachshund (whom she doesn’t actually have yet). Teresa relocated from Toronto to Hermosa Beach, Calif., where she lives in a beach house with her boyfriend and loves to take sunset walks on the beach. tallwheat.blogspot.com

Dustin Amery Hostetler (Ergonomics Feature illustration) has way too much up his sleeves and blames the internet for inspiring him to start new projects all the time. When he’s not at work as special projects manager for threadless.com, he’s busy publishing his art mag, Faesthetic, rehabbing a 100-year-old house, and frequenting antique stores. Dustin lives in Toledo, Ohio, with two really old cats named Pete and Tebro, a dog named Daphne, and his partner in crime and art, his wife, Jemma. His favorite food is salt, and you’ll never find him without his pocketknife.

Photographer Graziella Antonini (Becker-Echivard Profile photography) was born in Italy, raised and trained in Switzerland, and is currently living and working in Paris. She’s interested in many different fields of photography ranging from architecture to documentary to personal, in addition to video.
