4. PLACE THE LANTERNS
4a. Establish a place (such as a rafter in a garage) to temporarily
hang the branch construction to determine the balance of the
lantern placement. While holding the branch construction steady,
carefully place the lanterns more or less where you’d like them,
creating a general balance between the 3 points of weight.
Mark the spots at which the lanterns are placed on the top of
the branch, remove the lanterns, and bring the branch construction back to your worktable.
4b. Working with one lantern at a time, re-establish the placement
of the lantern handle using the hanging point marked at the top
of the branch. Securely twist-tie the lamp cord next to the spot
at which the handle rests on the branch, allowing enough slack
in the cord so that the lantern can hang freely. Repeat with the
remaining 2 lanterns.
4c. Beginning from the twist tie point, run a thin line of hot glue
along the top center of the branch, working in 3" sections, to
secure the cord flat against the branch. Continue to the center
of the branch assembly, stopping about 2" short of the eye bolt.
5. FINAL WIRING
5a. Trim the lamp cord near the eye bolt, allowing about 4"
of extra length beyond the end of the glued area. Split and
expose the copper wires, as in Step 3g. Repeat with the
remaining 2 lanterns.
5b. To complete the electrical connection, take only 1 exposed
wire from each of the 3 lamp cords and twist them together.
Take the remaining 3 exposed wires from the cords and twist
those together.
