2d. Remove the 2 short pieces and dab their ends with wood glue (use the
glue sparingly; balsa wood accepts wood glue remarkably well). Fit the box
construction inside the frame to hold its form and let dry.
2e. Remove the 4-sided box construction from the frame and place it on a
flat work surface. Place the 11"× 14" mirror facedown over the frame box.
Miter-cut 4 pieces of 1" corner trim, to case the edge of the mirror and the
sides of the frame box. Run wood glue along the inside edge of the corner trim
(the side that meets the box). Place the corner trim into position and let dry.
3. PREP THE IMAGES
3a. Since these images were selected to fit within an 11"× 14" frame vertically in 1½" sections, each image
was sized to 10½" wide. Flip the frame box over, and take the exact measurement of the inside of the box
from top to bottom, lengthwise (for this frame box, the measurement was 133"). In a miter box, cut 6
pieces of the r" balsa to the determined length, to fit the inside length of the box snugly without bowing.
Lightly sand the ends of each piece to remove any splintering.
3b. With a paper cutter or X-Acto
knife, slice each image into 1½" strips,
vertically. Start with the image that
will be viewed from the left. Working
over newspaper, spray the backside
of one 1½" image strip, and press onto
a 1½" balsa piece.
Repeat with all but the far right
section of the image, which is to be
spray-mounted and placed into the
right interior side of the frame box.
(If your image is not 14" long, establish
a centered placement on the balsa
piece first, mark the wood lightly with
a pencil, then use the spray mount
and place.)
3c. Using the image placement
diagram (at right) as a guide, spray-mount the sections of the image to be
viewed from the right on the backsides
of the 6 balsa pieces. Image section
B2 will be backed with image section
A1; B3 backed with A2, etc. The far left
section of the image will be placed on
the left interior side of the frame box.

NOTE: To keep from
smudging the image or
getting spray adhesive
on your hands, put a
clean sheet of paper
over the mounted image,
and press it out firmly
with your hand.
