Iam a judge-a-book-by-the-cover girl. As a graphic designer I am attracted to magazines that look aesthetically pleasing, and yours certainly is. I love the wide scope of articles, the covers, and the funky crafts that are so enticingly presented you can’t wait to start.

I am a very strange person who loves advertising; I love the products advertised in your mag, and with the online mag, it’s great to be able to click on websites. Can’t wait until the next issue.

Just wanted to tell you I loved my recent issue of CRAFT. As usual I sat down and read it cover to cover. I particularly liked the article “Business Basics for Crafty Types” by Jenny Ryan.

I was wondering, and hoping, if you were planning to do an additional article or an expansion on this one that would cover copyright questions — specifically in relation to the wide availability of free patterns now, and the implication of selling products made from someone else’s pattern, among other topics like how to copyright your work.

I think it’d be particularly useful to us loyal sub-
scribers. Thanks, and keep the great issues coming!

Thanks for the suggestion, Emily — we must be on the same page because we have an article on just that topic slated for the next volume!

Irecently received my first issue of CRAFT (Volume 04), and I am looking forward to trying out many of the projects.

I enjoyed the Project article “Custom Seat Covers.” However, as mentioned in the warning on page 90, there are possible safety issues with newer cars with side (seat-mounted) airbags. The warning was appropriate, although it could be more prominent in the article.

Also, the car pictured with the completed seat covers (a Saab 9-2X or Subaru Impreza) on page 88

has side airbags, as well as a warning about the side airbags on the doorsill.

Looking forward to more issues of CRAFT!

Thanks for writing in, Rachel — we appreciate your feedback. It’s true that the car pictured (mine) is a Subaru Impreza equipped with side airbags, but they’re easily disabled, which I would strongly recommend when putting seat covers on. The North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club online has a great post describing how to do this: craftzine.com/go/subaru

I’d love to be able to keep the side bags intact, but with big, furry dogs as my primary passengers, keeping the synthetic-fabric seats clean is quite a feat!

DARN IT!

In Jenny Ryan’s “Business Basics for Crafty Types” on page 43 of Volume 04, in the first paragraph of the second column, the ghost in the machine ate up several words that should have been there. The paragraph should read:

Having a website is no good unless people find out about it, of course. “Keeping a blog or sending out some sort of update email is very important,” says Heidi Kenney ( mypapercrane.com), a craft-biz veteran with four years of experience under her belt. “Swapping links with other small businesses is great too.”

In Matt Maranian’s “Beach Ball Bench” project on page 117 of Volume 04, in the Figure F diagram, the vertical measurement on the right-hand side should read 14", not 4".
