My youth was spent in a house constantly “under construction.” Although my mother bemoaned the inconvenience, I thought it was a great adventure and loved the doodads left around after projects were complete. Bits of wood, nails, washers, bolts, and beautiful shining metal pieces filled small, neat boxes in our garage, and I helped myself to them liberally.
Also during this time, I developed a love for textiles: wearing them, altering them, knitting, sewing, crocheting, and so on. It’s not surprising that I began to combine the two interests, and both still influence my art. My metal knitted purse is an excellent example of textile and hardware fusion.
