Craft: Places
Austin, Texas
>> The Enchanted Forest provides a safe and creative environment for artists, reconnecting art, nature, and the industrial world.
South of Austin, beside the railroad tracks, lies the Enchanted Forest. It was once a pig farm, then a hobo encampment, before it was transformed by Albert DeLoach (right) into a most unusual live/work space for artists and a unique outdoor performance venue. When DeLoach first bought the property 10 years ago, he started trucking out loads of rubbish, and working to restore the tree-lined limestone creek that ambles through the property.
He also had the help of others who got behind his vision to create an artist collective that now inhabits the forest. The Enchanted Forest now features
Art Outside ( artoutside.org) in the spring and the Haunted Trail ( austinhauntedforest.com) in the fall.
