An underwear wallet might not be the first thing that jumps into your mind when you’re planning your next craft project, but you might consider it after you see this clever how-to and its fabulous result.
You will need: Size 4 or bigger little boy’s underwear, one package bias binding, ¼ yard of 45" coordinating fabric, medium- or craft-weight fusible interfacing, seam ripper, scissors, iron, optional doodads (velcro, buttons, snaps, clear vinyl for an ID window, perhaps)
1. Cut
a. Using a seam ripper, remove the
elastic waistband and leg bands.
b. Cut eight 4. 5"× 8" rectangles. Cut
1 using the front of the underwear, 1
from the back, and 4 from a matching
cotton fabric. Also cut 2 from mid-weight
fusible interfacing.
c. Iron interfacing on both pieces of undies.
2. Sew
a. Customize 2 of the cotton pieces with
pockets and spaces for credit cards
using more cotton, velcro, buttons, and
snaps. You can even add an ID pocket
using 20-gauge clear vinyl.
b. Sew the pieces together along their
long sides to make the inside and outside
of the wallet. For the inside, sew 1 of the
“customized” cotton pieces to 2 plain
cotton pieces. For the outside, sew
the front of the undies to the back of
the undies and sew them both to the
remaining “customized” piece. Iron flat.
